Good morning. I am new here. I have read many posts and knowing I’m not alone in my gambling addiction is hopeful. I am struggling. I got paid Thursday, and my complete paycheck is gone to slots. Rent was due yesterday. I have exhausted family & friends. Never been late with rent, but now I must tell my landlord I’ll pay him in 2 weeks.…[Read more]

A two-way prayer consists of a Godly trait we want, plus what God wants, or commands. Example:
“Father, help me to fight thoughts of ______, and to replace them with thoughts of love.”
In this prayer God wants my thoughts changed, and I want to increase in love.
Today, consider writing your own two-way prayer. Step one: What positive Godly tra…[Read more] -

Friday I wrote about picking a verse (Search verses gambling) to quote regularly to fight temptation, Saturday, I wrote about picking a prayer to pray regularly to fight temptation. Today is activities. New activities are vital to replace habits, but are often frustrating because they are “Not what we want to do.”
First, we need to be tough and…[Read more] -

I think ______ will fix me (Fill in your habit of choice). I think it will make me happy, and kill my pain. I have proven 1000 times that this is not true, but… I refuse to believe it is true.Fact, until you fix “you,” you will not be happy, and you will have a lot of pain. I have some of the same struggles you do, but, I am busy hav…[Read more]

Every bad habit gives some pleasure and some pain. But the ratio is very simple yet very complicated. It is simple because it is a fact that many bad habits cause massive destruction. It is complicated because sometimes the destruction is small and we hardly notice it. It is complicated, because, when we ignore the small destruction we forget, the…[Read more]

Gamblings bad days are 5 times (5x) as painful as the good days are great. I am not fully aware of this fact. How can I fully learn this fact?
#1 Write 5 notes and put them where you will see them constantly.
#2 Write: Pain = 5x the pleasure. At work simply write 5x.
#3 Consider writing down and memorizing the first sentence.
#4 I remember the…[Read more] -

We all think that our habit is (or was)) the greatest thing on earth to do. It is not. Other activities are better. The challenge is… To understand the whole equation, instead of just focusing on the pleasure.
Bad habits cause destruction. Sometimes twice as much destruction as we think. Consider praying:
“Father, show me the full destruction tha…[Read more] -

There was an old show called One day at a time. If you are struggling you think, “I can never quit this.” In that show the single mom was working and raising two kids. She could not handle life, but she could handle today. She could handle one day at a time.
Don’t try to solve impossible long-term problems today. If you need to work on that pro…[Read more]

Reject and fight negative thoughts and turn them into positive thoughts. My favorite Aunt was broke, divorced, and raised two kids on her own. But she always insisted on being positive, and she always had joy. Consider studying “Positive thoughts” verses if this is hard for you.
Proverbs 17:22 ESV A joyful heart is good medicine, but a cru…[Read more]

Todays GA One Day at a Time reading Oct. 5 was exactly what I needed. It’s easy to go down a rabbit hole of unhealthy thinking when not exposed to external healing words.

What is your #1 reason for quitting? Here is a fact. Person A who wants to quit at an 85% level will quit faster than person (B) who is “Demanded by a court” to quit, if person A figures out how to remind themselves “Why” they want to quit enough times every day. The fact that B needs to quit way more does not matter. Why? It’s simple math: P…[Read more]

I am convinced that gambling is my pleasure. Do I ever check how often I get pleasure from gambling per 10 times doing it? Do I check how much time is wasted. Do I actually get pleasure from it even 30% of the time? Is that tiny bit of pleasure worth the overall destruction bad habits cost me?
My pleasures get me into trouble, don’t satisfy, and…[Read more] -

I hope you can stop hating yourself . there is zero reason. We can view ourselves or others as bad when we have a mental and emotional illness. It is vitally important to realise that even if stupid mainstrem society hasnt yet. They should have ads on tv depicting devasted gamblers as a deterrent just like pics of a rotting lung on a cigerette package.

Adam and Eve’s greatest pleasure was communication with God and spending time with God. They had many other great pleasures, but their greatest pleasure was God. Biblical David’s greatest pleasure (When he was living right) was praying, studying the commandments, and spending time with God. The Bible implies that Biblical Paul may…[Read more] -

In the South, wild hogs eat and wreck everything. So, farmers and landowners are always trying to trap them, just like gambing is always trying to trap us. The farmers set giant metal cages on their property. Then they put food inside them so that someday they will slam the door shut and get about 18 of them.
The traps are set up and the young…[Read more] -

Quitting probably takes longer than you think. Forming new habits probably takes longer than you think. It takes 66 days on average to form a new habit. Some people are so obsessed with quitting and with new habits, so they think about forming new habits “All the time.” That leads to more rapid success. Others who are completely determined to qui…[Read more]

I watched a You Tube where a guy was describing to an actor about to play a heroin addict, what it is like to be on heroin. He told him: Drink a bunch of whisky and get into a hot tub, and that will be the tip of the surface of what it is like to be on heroin. My immediate reply to hearing that was a loud NO. This person is exaggerating the…[Read more]
