68 days of working the program and staying clean! I feel happy and I am thankful for recovery. Admitting I am a compulsive gambler, believing in a higher power, and made a decision to turn my will and life over to my higher power.

Good afternoon. I am on Day 19 without gambling. I am relieved to get off the crazy train. I realize I am a compulsive gambler and the progression only gets worse. I can stop now or after I have lost everything. Going to face to face meetings has helped me. When tempted, I wait 20 minutes, finding something else to do. I also have others I…[Read more]

I like the analogy and will use this in my own recovery. When I am tempted, I will think about Satan and all the bad he has planned for me. Good analogy.

I agree. You have to want to quit. There is a lot of discussion that goes on with yourself in that critical decision. Why would we drink poison and slowly die when we can stop, put the poison down, and experience life.

2/21/21 is a great day to start a journey in not gambling. I have decided this will be my new Day 1 in this journey. I was hoping to wait until I got 30 days to start chatting again, but I honestly need support for every day of my journey. So while I relapsed, I am starting the journey again. I think it helps to know our brains have been…[Read more]

Hi KC,
As you know it is 30 months since I placed my last bet but before that last bet I had a few relapses. During a relapse I actually started to analyse my play to see how much ‘fun’ I was actually having. In truth there was very little fun, wins provide a momentary buzz the rest was in the anticipation of the win. There were times when it was…[Read more]

Cat, this is a great post I am on Day 9 and continue to work with my husband His control over the finances, his support, and honest and transparent conversation has helped immensely. I am grateful for him each day. What a hideous disease and the fact it impacts so many is sad. I do not ever want to be in the position I was in. I was gambling…[Read more]

Best Thing You DID! Exceptional awareness on your part, Trish. There is a beautiful life waiting for you without a BET.

KC, I hear that!
I am blessed as I put my husband through hell when I was in the worst and DEEP within my years of addicted gambling. He stuck with me through thick and thin and being open and finally honest and accountable when I disclosed it ALL? Yes, he could have walked away!
But he has supported me and also did the treatment therapy as well…[Read more]

I agree and don’t think gambling is the answer. First things first, and that begins with your recovery. Also, paying debts slowly may help. As Ken L says, find out what you can comfortably live on for food and shelter, etc. Then take what you have extra to pay the debts. Also, I turned my finances over to my husband. It helps me to not look…[Read more]

Hi Justin, I am on Day 6 of my recovery. You can do this. I have been working the 12 steps. https://12step.org/references/12-step-versions/ga/ I think of progress over perfection and journal each evening any progress for the day. I admitted I am a compulsive gambler (cg). I rely on my HP, God, to help me. However, your HP can be the…[Read more]

I found a great song to help me in recovery https://youtu.be/MX1G71WK-FA

Funny you bring up music as I had a favorite song I listened to every chance I got. Driving to GA meeting or my treatment recovery group or even my check-ins with my Recovery Specialist I worked with for over a year… It’s by Mary J Blige and the song ” NO MORE DRAMA” as when you listen to the words it speaks about recovery from addiction. Mary J…[Read more]

Hi Klg16, I am new to recovery. You have come to the right place. The Chat room is helpful and we are all in the same boat. I am with Bernme, recovery will give you peace of mind. Progress not perfection. I couldn’t stop either, but then I started working the 12 steps. https://12step.org/references/12-step-versions/ga/ They have been a…[Read more]

Day 5 for me, too. Hang in there my friend. You have come too far to start over. That is what I keep telling myself. I don’t want to restart the recovery process.

This is a great accomplishment
Stay strong
If you find yourself tempted
Only believe you will just lose more and more
It not worth it for today
One day at a time -
I agree with KC! Keep it going and don’t worry more about the days, focus more on HOW YOU FEEL when you don’t go back out and ENJOY IT! 💝✨🎁 Even if it’s just for TODAY …Cat

IA, the money can be replaced. You cannot my friend. You can get through this and come out the other side. You are a good person who like many of us got addicted to gambling. You can start your road to recovery. You are worth living and recovering. You can help others in the process. With time, you will realize how hideous this addiction…[Read more]

Hi IA. There is dawn in the darkness and light at the end of the tunnel. You are a good person in the grips of a baffling addiction. I am on Day 4, finally taking my need to recover serious and working the 12 steps. I think if the addiction as a “monster” and I am choosing not to feed it. A man once said he gave up gambling and got all he…[Read more]
