It takes some people longer than others. I know you want a date but that cant happen. All I can say is stay busy. We call it fill the void. Attend some on line zoom meetings. Hear other peoples stories. The further you get away from gambling the further your thoughts and urges will get. This I promise you. I am 63 and…[Read more]

Do you believe in the talk that addicts have been abused, neglected or abandoned?
-
Common thread for some addicts but not everyone.
In my many years in Gamblers Anonymous meetings I have met many people who have come from great family growing up
and solid relationships but for whatever reason gambling got a hold of them and they couldn’t stop on their own.
And congrats on your 10 years in recovery 🙂 Keep it up ODAAT
God…[Read more] -
People like to think that addiction doesn’t discriminate but in my personal experience I’ve seen some shared traits among us but not the ones you describe. This addiction “selects” people who are bad at delaying gratification and gauging consequences . And also who tend to be impulsive and looking to escape.
-
…..The great news is these traits can be changed if we choose to work on them. Happy Holidays and Congrats on a decade of clean time!!😊❤️❤️❤️

I grew up in a loving home so I’ve always wondered then, what happened to me?

I am so grateful to Gamblers Anonymous who has helped me celebrate 10 years of one day at a time. I use the term GOD for good orderly direction and GA has given me that. Please keep trying one day at a time.

Keep your money for something for yourself not somebody else. Throwing away you money will not make your life comfortable but if you gamble it your making someone else’s life comfortable. You work hard for your money. I hope you can stop gambling and start being kind to yourself. Wishing you well.

My husband and I had an appointment yesterday with our financial advisor and I was so ashamed. I am the one who lost all of the money gambling and now because of an injury I cant work. My husband is 64 and because of my gambling addiction will have to work til he is 70. Even when I told him what I did 8 years ago he still stayed with me.…[Read more]

Its not about controling the impulse. Gambling is an emotional disease and will power doesnt work. Its about getting help for your addiction. I had to join Gamblers anonymous so I was accountable to a group of like minded people. Just like this message board you get advise and listen to the others struggles. I am thinking of you and…[Read more]

For a compulsive gambler there is no cutting back there is only quitting. Unfortunetly I got addicted to gambling and had 5 credit cards my husband had no idea about and they were all maxed out. Then I got a second mortgage and then a third at 35 percent. This is an emotional illness that none other than us understand. Keep trying one…[Read more]

I knew I had a problem but didnt know how to quit. I got myself an addictions counceller for free and then we started working on my life problems. Gambling is a symtion of a greater problem. Just one day at a time. When I couldnt pay my bills anymore and was about to lose my house I knew it was time. Find your rock bottom. Hope…[Read more]

Having women in my GAA meeting has helped me a lot. GA is something that I will always have in my life. I still work on my addictive traits like sneaking, lying and cheating.

Dont let your husband pay off your credit cards that is called enabling and behind every successfull compulsive gamblers is an enabler. We have to take responsibility for our own actions. Getting a consumer proposal and working hard to pay it off yourself is a good idea because the interest isnt as high. I had to tell my husband to stop…[Read more]

I had to give up control of my money so I didnt gamble and now with Christmas coming up I hate that I cant have money. I carry only 15.00 dollars and my cell phone. If I have a large amount of money I will gamble but I wont gamble if I only have a few dollars. I was the person who had to gamble for at least 5 hours or I didnt see the…[Read more]

Can you get a professional to help you? There are some free hot lines for gamblers in most countries. Most people cant give us advise because they have no idea what we went through and how our brains are working. Keep posting your problems maybe one at a time and getting feed back on here. Dont gamble today.

If you hear the message often enough you will hear the answer. Are you attending any Gamblers anonymous meetings either via zoom or in person. I know there are other website with meetings via zoom also might help. My brain is finally getting wired to the right way. I thought it was ok to spend money I didnt have on gambling because it…[Read more]

Try and get into a Gamblers Anonymous meeting even if its just by zoom. We as no others understand the compulsion to gamble. I would tell myself everyday that in 2 years from today I will gamble so that the urges were not as strong. Everyday now I look in the mirror and tell myself I will not gamble today. Stay strong.

Your biggest win is our biggest lose. Your right we keep chasing the win but then we only end up chasing our own money. I dont use the word win because what I am doing is only getting a small portion of my money back. That thought helped me stop gambling.

Sorry about your family. Most people dont understand how we are wired. Your sister will have to come to her own conclusion but you need to stay stronge for yourself. No is a full sentence. Just say no. My thoughts are with you. I told my sister I had a gambling problem and 4 hours later she dropped me off at the casino for 4 hours.
