Hi, I am 15 and I am gambling for one year now. I am now sober for 7 days but urge to gamble is getting stronger. I am really willing to stop gambling, do you have some advice and after how long I won’t feel the urge

    • It takes some people longer than others. I know you want a date but that cant happen. All I can say is stay busy. We call it fill the void. Attend some on line zoom meetings. Hear other peoples stories. The further you get away from gambling the further your thoughts and urges will get. This I promise you. I am 63 and have nothing because I gambled my whole life away. Retirement is not even a word for me. Keep fighting a good fight. Just for today dont gamble worry about tomorrow, tomorrow.

    • Hello Recovery1234,

Hang in there, urges are tricky to deal with but it gets easier as you learn to cope with them. KellyK’s already offer you one solid advice, which is only focusing on not gambling today. For urges within that day, try to see if you can delay each urge when it comes. Just for 15 min, tell yourself I’ll wait 15 min, and then another 15, and then another. You’ll notice that urges peak in intensity and then gradually go down on their own.
