    People I need your help-

I’ve been on this forum for a few weeks now and felt well-received and well-supported by folks even though I may not come here for the same reason as you do. I try to give my two cents and offer quick advice the best I can, hopefully they help but during the process I can’t help but feel a bit powerless because the progress of helping each individual is slow, and the amount of people I can help limited. It’s also why I wanted to create a self-help mobile app after working with people with gambling addiction in the hospital as a psychotherapist.

I have been trying to spread words on this app that is essentially a digital treatment program in the hope that those who have limited access to effective, quality help or those who are therapy-hesitant could have another option. However, it seems that people are not that interested in it so I’d really love to hear your thoughts on the matter. Specifically-

    1. Whether you believe you’d benefit from the app (If not, why not)
    2. Whether you’d use it once it’s available(If not, why not)
    3. What you hope to find in the app (features, content, etc.)

To know more about the current app (in the making), please feel free to take a look at the landing page (https://skinnerapp.wixsite.com/helloskinner). You can input your answers at the end of the page or simply express your interest by signing up. You are of course welcome to add anything else you’d like to share with me or ask questions, I am all ears. Thank you so much for your time and thanks in advance for your insights!

    • I’d be very interested in your app

    • Skinner,
I don’t understand exactly what you are talking about. Would I use your app, maybe just to see if there is any good information that could help I suppose. But in the long run I don’t know how much this would really benefit. It’s like this site. I can read the posts and get some encouragement from the moderator or other people here but the bottom line is that there is no accountability to anyone, including myself. I really appreciate what a lot of people have to say, and the advice to believe a higher power can help you out of this, but in the end , the individual has to be committed to their own recovery.
Having resources in your app to get people connected to groups and professionals would be helpful. As for this site, scheduling online meetings at a particular time and day would be helpful.

      • Hi Tommy
I use to moderate a few meetings here each week but sadly attendance dwindle to no one showing up.
That said if you ever want to chat / share I usually am in chat at 11 pm est.

      • @tommyt Hello Tommy,
Thank you for your comment, maybe I didn’t make it clear enough, it is exactly the opposite of a network/platform for peer support, like the case with GamTalk and GA (Gambler Anonymous). There are plenty of those and they work well for some people, but not for all. The app I am trying to create is what you will get if you go into a therapy room with a mental health professional for therapy, except that you don’t need to actually get in touch with a professional because the material and exercises are explained in the app so you could be your own therapist! So think of therapy, minus the hassle of booking sessions, building a relationship and go in to see a professional every week. You can do all that from the palm of your hand, whenever you choose, at your own pace.

I hope that’s clearer, please feel free to ask further questions. The site also contains what I said above.
