Today I have spent some time contacting all of the online gambling sites that I frequent (and there are a few) to self-exclude. I’ve done this before, and new online casinos arrive every day that a person can join so it’s much like trying to use a face cloth to block a dam. I added Gam Block to my computer months ago, only to discover that I could “trick” it by using a VPN. I self-excluded myself from my local casino six months ago, but this accomplishes nothing if I’m merely finding different ways to self-destruct. This morning after waking up in a cold sweat fearing how much financial damage I might do to myself today, I realized that if I don’t stop I might not survive. I don’t even understand why I’m doing it when it’s clearly not fun. It’s actually terrifying and compulsive. I received confirmation via email months ago that I would be referred to a local counselor through my province’s government gambling funded program, and have not been contacted since. There is no GA in my city. I’m doing my best, but asking for help is hard, especially when help isn’t as readily available as it is implied. I need to help myself. I guess part of that is writing this.

  Good for you for making so much effort on your own behalf! They do not make it easy that’s for sure. I think it’s important to remember that there is a continual conflict of interest because the very same agencies that are offering this help to us are also the same ones who made it possible for us to develop this disabling condition in the first place! All hail the mighty dollar and it’s power! The irony of course is that this devastating problem that we have acquired really has nothing to do with money. So let’s take advantage of the services they are offering because if we have found this site we no longer have a choice. It just goes to show how incredibly profitable this business is that it is nothing for them to provide these comprehensive services to us so they can continue to lure ever more unsuspecting victims into this amazing money making scheme. My heart goes out to you and all the rest of us. Don’t give up because you are so much more than this. This is not who you are but what has happened to you!
