I started out about a year ago putting $20 into a slot machine and walking away win or lose. Now I gamble every day and I am losing thousands. I can’t believe how quickly it escalated and how I have lost complete control. I need someone to talk to when I get the urge. I was up all night at a casino last night. Won some but put it all back in. I want to be able to gamble with control but I’ve tried that. Does not work.

Hi rivers sorry you are troubled by gambling. Truth is many including myself started just like you. Now landed in a spot needing to stop. It’s so addictive best thing to do is place blockers up so you can’t go back. And respect your decision. After time it does get easier to stay away but it does take time. Then it’s really up to you reasoning with your self. You need to stay strong and remember what gambling has brought to you to this point. No thick wallet here 😊picking a person you can really trust and confide in does help. It’s important to pick wisely someone open minded someone who won’t be judgemental, someone you know has your back.

Hi river you mentioned you were at a casino there you can likely self exclude yourself. I did that going back a few years ago when I realized how quickly my money was slipping away. I self excluded at least for a couple of years. I can’t remember if it was two or three years. The time ran out then I wrote to ask permission to go back again that had to be at least two years ago. I received permission but haven’t never did go back to date.
On line gambling there is of course self exclusion or you can install a bet blocker such as Gamban. That is around $50 a year and most of the people I have read on here said that worked the easieith their devices. There are other blockers some are free. Bet blocker but some people found they couldn’t get it to work with their phones myself included.
GA meetings may help also it’s good to speak with other people who can share their experiences and offer support. ❤️
Thank you. I will block myself at the casino tomorrow. Didn’t realize I could do that. I have looked for GA meetings but have not found any in my area. Hoping this venue will help. I have started meeting with a therapist specializing in Gambling addiction. I have only met with her once, but looking forward to continuing with her. I want a sponsor. Someone I can trust, and call on. I am overwhelmed with how my life has spiraled down because of gambling and so hopeful that my efforts now can focus on recovery. Thank you for the info. It will be a good start.
