APRIL 23 Reflection for the Day
No matter what it is that seems to be our need or problem, we can find something to rejoice in, something for which to give thanks. It is not God who needs to be thanked, but we who need to be thankful. Thankfulness opens new doors to good in our life. Thankfulness creates a new heart and a new spirit in us.

Do I keep myself aware of the many blessings that come to me each day and remember to be thankful for them?

    Today I Pray
May God fill me with a spirit of thankfulness. When I express my thanks, however fumbling, to God or to another human being, I am not only being gracious to God or that other person for helping me, but I am also giving myself the greatest reward of all—a thankful heart. May I not forget either the transitive “to thank,” directed at someone else, or the intransitive “giving thanks,” which fills my own great need.

    Today I Will Remember
    Thank and give thanks.

    • Gratitude is such an important piece to finding joy in our current circumstances. Here is a write up I wrote a few years ago for work.

Gratitude: being thankful, readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness

I saw an article on my FaceBook newsfeed about gratitude. At that moment I didn’t have time to read the article. As the day progressed I couldn’t get the word gratitude out of my mind. I began to have some wonderings; what does it really mean to be a person of gratitude. Am I a person of gratitude? Am I setting a good example of what it means to be a person of gratitude for my kids?

I did what most of us do when we don’t know something and did a Google search. Wow, I didn’t realize there were so many articles and books out there regarding the subject of gratitude. The first one that came up on my search said, ” Cultivating a heart of gratitude means having an appreciation for life in the present moment.” The words “in the present moment” stood out in my mind. I continued my search. The next article started with “So many of us can think thankful thoughts and say simple appreciative sayings but how many of us genuinely feel a deep well of gratitude daily?”

Both articles referred to being thankful daily. Maybe the key to being a person of gratitude is making a mindful decision each day to be thankful for something no matter how small that something might seem.

I discovered that there are some health benefits of being a person of gratitude. According to Psychology Today, people who have a heart of gratitude have improved mental, physical, and psychological health, enhanced empathy, reduced aggression, and increased mental strength.

I am going to challenge myself and I would like to challenge you….Between now and Christmas break each day at some point in your day, stop and think about something that makes you feel grateful.

      Some thought provoking questions:
