Did you know that you get a hit of dopamine every time you make a bet?? It doesn’t matter if you win or lose. It’s just the act of gambling that releases a boost of dopamine in your brain just like a drug addict gets a high every time he shoots up. When dopamine is released in large amounts it creates feelings of strong pleasure and reward which motivate you to repeat this behavior over and over. So please stop beating yourself up when you slip. You are not weak. There’s more going on here than just a lack of willpower. You are battling a scientifically proven chemical reaction that has carved out a deep pathway in your brain. The good news is it’s never too late to create new pathways. Your brain is very resilient and retrain able. So be patient with yourself and give yourself some credit. You’ve survived a ton of crap and you are a work in progress.
