GAMBLING IS NOT A BIBLICAL SIN
Gambling is like drinking alcohol in the Bible. Jesus is okay with 1 drink but drinking is completely condemned when it controls and ruins lives.
So if gambling has control of your life you may want to learn how to pray and overcome temptation the Bible way so that you can quit.
The Bible says in James 1:14-15: But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.”
To avoid these problems it might be a good idea to do exactly what Jesus did when he was tempted. Jesus fought temptation with the Word.

We struggle to quit because we either don’t completely believe the Bible or because we don’t know the Bible. Below are my top 20 list of Bible verses for quitting gambling. I can guarantee you that I believe the Bible. So my problem is that I don’t know these Bible verses the way I should.

    A PRAYER FOR TODAY
We always talk about skills for quitting. Toughness is today’s tip. Life beats us up again and we need to increase toughness to overcome gambling. Pray, “Father, take away my spirit of gambling and help me to be tough when life gets hard.”

I bring this up because we need to read the Bible, spend time in prayer and increase our skills and habits for quitting. But at the key moment of temptation, we fight back with the Bible exactly the way Jesus did.
We should read, study and memorize these verses. And we should admit that they are right. I am not a greedy selfish pig. But do I struggle with covetousness? Probably.
There is power in the Word. Print it out, try it, believe it.

But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.

An inheritance gained hastily in the beginning will not be blessed in the end.

    • Not to be a downer, but you may need to do more than just “Faith” to maintain a stable, well-balanced life and recovery. I believe GOD has some of us have a DETOUR to gain stronger faith, gain wisdom, learn from, and then “Pay It Forward” to those suffering in silence from this disease. It takes doing the recovery work along with “Faith” that makes your life worthy and blessed.

      • Well said Cat.

      • I agree. Belief is not really belief if we are not helping others.

        • Thank you, Durr, for not being upset with me about my sharing.

Yes, we do need to “be of service” to others. And I would never discount “Faith” within our recovery journey. I know I am a walking and talking MIRACLE of my Lord and Savior after two failed suicide attempts due to my past gambling. That is where my disease and my poor choices to gamble took me. So, without my belief in my HP, I would not have the beautiful life I am blessed to live today.
Most know here that I feel the same way about Gamblers Anonymous. So in NO way do I think it is NOT helpful? It is, but I needed any and ALL OPTIONS to quit gambling and enter recovery.
That was how far down, broken, and sick I was. At that time, I was living in the State of Oregon, and it was the lottery poker and slot sponsored machines I became addicted to. But, ironically? The State Lottery PAID for my crisis center 28 days stay and my treatment program that it took me twice to get into long-term recovery.
See, we humans are not perfect! LOL! It may take a tries to get a solid foothold in Recovery! The important part is I NEVER GAVE UP. Yes, I fell a lot, but I kept ongoing.
          WHY?
Because I knew what the only alternative would be … DEATH. Is it hard work that we need to do to get there?
Yes, but it is worth my life for it. Everything I am blessed to do all that I do as a recovery advocate, writer, speaker, columnist, author, and mentor to others is from “Faith and my Recovery.” So all the Glory to God!
