Hello, I am a secret compulsive gambler. It has been about 6 years since I started gambling. My boyfriend and I used to go together all the time and that stopped about a year ago, and I have been going by myself without him knowing. After accumulating a mountain of credit card debt, I couldn’t keep it a secret from my boyfriend any longer and finally told him a about the hole I was in. I was so afraid to tell him but when I finally did, he was supportive and understanding. I took a loan to pay off the credit cards but I still keep gambling and again have kept it a secret from him. Today I have decided that I am strong enough and I CAN and WILL stop gambling. My finances are in serious trouble and I honestly want to cry just thinking about it. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Help, help and more help. Coming here was a good move. Join GA, get counselling, cancel your membership to online and physical casinos, cut off your line of access to gambling. Switch to a bank that does not accept transactions from gambling sources, they do exist, your own bank may already have that facility. Confide in your boyfriend once more, you need support and understanding to get through this. We have all been where you are right now and if we can do this, you can do this to, you just have to really want to do it. Changing any habit/addiction takes focus and determination to stay on track but it is acheivable and as you go through each step you will be rewarded by the feel good factor. When you find yourself fighting the urge to gamble, recognise that discomfort as part of the healing process. You can do this. Well done for making the first move by coming here.
