Hi Everybody. My name is Sarah. I’ve been a gambling addict for about 7 years. This past Friday I gambled the most I have ever gambled in a single day. I received a lump sum payment 4 days ago and today I’m effectively broke. That includes the money I borrowed from my daughters checking account to pay for my daughters swim lessons and gambled that too trying to get back. The GA meetings are not close to where I live. I have asked for my mother to help me by holding my debit card and Friday we are going to the bank to restrict my account needing two account holders present to withdrawal money. I don’t even know if that’s a thing, it I’m trying to avoid requesting her to ve my payee. I do have a family, three children and a husband (who is also not the best with money but not an addict), so I’d like to have some privacy with my spending and account balances. I really just need to not have access to cash during the day when I’m home with no kids. I’m a stay at home mom. So, I’m going to order GA literature Friday when my husband gets paid, and try the online chats at GamTalk. I drive by several casinos dropping off my kids at school, so that’s where I think having the GA book in the car will help. I tell myself go straight home then next thing I’m taking the next exit for the casino. I never really thought I had a problem. I always thought if I ever had enough money to pay all our bills, fix our vehicles, and buy the things we need, I wouldn’t gamble anymore. We finally got a decent amount of money to do those things and I lost it all gambling. I thought I’d hit rock bottom before after gambling our rent and was suicidal, but when we had enough and I still went I realised I didn’t have an excuse, this is addiction. Wishing all of you stability. Will keep you posted on what’s working/helping me.
