Lindy thank you for your response. I agree with you to a point. I have a higher power that I choose to call God. Ironically I hear people(addicts) “Let go and Let god”. Okay then what? I see it another way. My higher power will provide me with guidance and tools I need to gain and remain “clean”. I can’t find anywhere it says my higher power will…[Read more]

bruary 19th Hazelden Thought for the Day

    Our Path

I just spent several hours with someone from my group, and I feel like I’m losing my mind. This woman insisted that the only way I would make progress in my program was to go to her church and succumb to her religious rules. She pushed and insisted, and insisted and pushed. She’s been in the…[Read more]

    • I’m a Christian… and also addicted. I don’t believe we should ever ‘push’ anyone into religious beliefs… I believe that we ought to display our faith in our actions of encouragement.. and giving hope… not in pushing… God will help us if the only prayer we’re able at the moment is to say ‘Help Me Please’…. Take care Lindy

Speak in the 1st person. Stop with the “we”. why do you gamble and why do you not stop and stay stopped. Those are the issues YOU, as a problem/compulsive gambler need to answer for yourself. Keep flailing about. One day you might get really “LUCKY” and find your way home. Best wishes on finding peace and serenity. YOU NEED TO DO THE WORK. I’M…[Read more]

And what are your qualifications? I didn’t hear that would you please repeat it….? One day at time, Hold on to the Rope of Hope. attend GA meetings regularly (as many as needed). YOU’RE WORTH IT, SO WORK IT! Of course these are only suggestions. I’m not qualified to give advice. Nor do I want to. A book eh, for sale eh. Ya can’t buy…[Read more]

I pray that I make it through the day. Don’t look back, that’s history. Don’t look forward that’s a mystery. As a self-admitted compulsive gambler, it has been my experience living in the NOW is the best way (at least for me) to work my program. I will say unequivocally Gamblers Anonymous has saved my life. I strongly recommend/suggest that those…[Read more]

Only a fool listens to his own advice. It is a rare, no extremely rare case that a CG’er stops gambling and stays stopped after a 60 day program. In fact I have a little history in this area and have never seen it happen. You’re advocating “start and stop”. Again snake oil sales are high. Durr this is my last post on your treads Two suggestions…[Read more]

Gambling free in 60 days…….is snake oil salesman talk…….Beware of those selling quick fixes…….GA and only GA gives a CG’er the opportunity to Attain long term Abstinence, recovery/remission. Harm reduction and CBT help, religion has some value. The way to success is based in spiritual values. Mine include a higher power who for the…[Read more]

Gambling free in 60 days method is harder than GA. But if you go through their program a few times you can quit gambling and start to find fullness of joy. Which I want.

I feel sorry for you. You’re very narrow in your view of abstinence, recovery and remission. I will say a prayer for you. Only those that look,
can see. Stay Safe, Be well!

I’m very fortunate my bible only has 17 pages; it is called the GA yellow combo book. I can only suggest that others suffering from this terrible disease look into The GA 12 step program, which is non allied with any religion or sect. All are welcome.

    • As soon as a 12 step program fills me with joy and purpose, I will start talking every day about them. 12 steps are great, I highly recommend them.
But, there is only 1 God. Either I am right or the people of other religions are right. We are not both right.

If I might be so bold as to suggest; if you really want help and believe you have a problem make both meetings. It has been my experience those that try to do it by themselves only stay abstinate and in recovery for a short period of time before the inevitable addiction returns with a vengeance. Reflection for the day April 3rd “Them that…[Read more]

I strongly recommend you take the suggestions, thoughts and ideas that you have been given and put them in action. It seems you are hell bent on doing it your way which begs the question “how’s/how did that work out for you”? I have a bit of clean time/remission/recovery I read your post as perhaps the last leg in your next slip, trip, relapse.…[Read more]

My remission/recovery started with an addictions counselor, after four months she strongly pointed out we had reached a crossroads and it was time I “mingled” with other CG’ers and share my experiences, strength and hopes(GA). I took her suggestion to heart. It was/is eight plus years later the best thing that ever happened in my life. I invite…[Read more]

Keep it up. It works if you work it. Good Job!

  • tony posted a new activity comment 5 years, 3 months ago

I don’t see this as a confession. I see this as a person who sees a potential for a more serious problem and is seeking help. You’ve done a good thing. Now I hope you follow through and remain abstinent and seek long term remission and recovery. Look to GA, a counselor whatever it takes before gambling completely takes over your life.

    • Thanks Tony. 🙂 I woke up to this day relieved after my so called confession or admitting that I have a problem. Hope that you are doing well also.

Try the meetings again! The program works if you work it. I like many CG’ers attended for a period of time decided I was “fixed” .NOT SO MUCH. I had to learn to listen and listen to learn. When I returned it took me two yrs to actually admit to being defeated by the disease and surrender to the fact that I couldn’t gamble under any circumstance. I…[Read more]

Natalia does this look like a marketing site. Read the intro and get lost. Unless you have something germane to say to members of this community. Your sales pitch is neither desired or required. At least by this member.
