Winning : I WANT to win therefore I CAN ( False optimism )
Losing : I HAVE to win therefore I MUST ( Denial )
Desperation: I NEED to win therefore I WILL ( Omnipotent )
Escape : I don’t care if I win ( escapism )

I commend you for your self-insight. The most difficult part for me wasn’t admitting I had gambling sickness, but hiding it from everyone.   I found that the “hiding it” portion of my gambling was exhausting. No matter how hard I tried to hide, someone always knew and chose not to mention it. Either they didn’t want to approach me about it or didn’t care because they had their own issues. I will be in recovery for the rest of my life. I am a hybrid pathological gambler; preference to action gambling, but easily default into escape gambling when overwhelmed.
