Hi.. I just joined today.. I have been gambling heavy with The past 12 months.. last night I lost a lot of money again and I really really want to stop but I find it so difficult.. any help/advice would be appreciated

    • Self exclude if that is applicable, GA meetings (they do work and I was sceptical), a therapist and these online forum chats and meetings. I do ALL that I mentioned. Commit to it and you’ll be surprised that the cravings/urges lessen in time and it doesn’t take that long for it to lessen.

      • Thank you kc.. I have tried the meetings before but I always seem to slip back into the gambling again.. I just find it so hard to stop

    • Try the meetings again! The program works if you work it. I like many CG’ers attended for a period of time decided I was “fixed” .NOT SO MUCH. I had to learn to listen and listen to learn. When I returned it took me two yrs to actually admit to being defeated by the disease and surrender to the fact that I couldn’t gamble under any circumstance. I was clean(white knuckling it) 3 to 4 meetings a week. I have been clean for an extended period of time and attribute it all to my commitment to GA. I also had counseling, a sponsor and much support. Meetings Make It! Keep trying it is well worth, because you are worth it.

    • You’re most welcome, Liam. Try meetings again, try different meetings. When the urge comes back to gamble then breathe deeply and reach out to someone from your meetings or your therapists or someone on here. Just commit to not gambling and the urge will pass. If you think you can gamble a little bit and not find yourself in the exact situation then you’re sadly mistaken. This gaming/gambling venues are out to take your money not make you rich. We are here and together we can all just say NO.
