JANUARY 5th Reflection for the Day

“Today is my lucky day.” How often in the past we said that, when it was an empty prophesy. Today, those words are real; I am being given a second chance. In my gambling days, I sacrificed every “today” for a dream of some distant tomorrow. Of all that I lost, I grieve most for all those “today’s.” – I cannot br…[Read more]

JANUARY 4th Reflection for the Day

For a good part of my life, I saw things mostly in negative terms. Everything was serious, heavy, or just plain awful. Perhaps now I can truly change my attitude, searching out the winners in the Gamblers Anonymous Program who have learned how to live comfortably in the real world – without gambling.

JANUARY 3rd Reflection for the Day

My gambling compulsion is three-fold in that it affects me physically, mentally and spiritually. As a compulsive gambler, I was totally out of touch, not only with myself, but with reality. Day after miserable day, like a caged animal on a treadmill I repeated my self-destructive pattern of living.

    Have I begun…[Read more]

JANUARY 2nd Reflection for the Day

Before I came to the Gamblers Anonymous Program, I hadn’t the faintest idea of what it was to “Live in the Now.” I often became obsessed with things that happened yesterday, last week, or even five years ago. Worse yet, many of my waking hours were spent clearing away the “wreckage of the future.” “To me,”…[Read more]

the daily messages. Can’t promise they will be in a timely fashion as I may miss a day here and there but will try my best to keep things up.
    God Bless and hope…[Read more]

    Hi Tino
I agree BT if one finds the right room GA is a gift to recovery
I have been in GA for just over 21 years and still attend because in my room we don’t just talk about recovery issues we can dump whatever problems we are dealing with it the middle of the room and move on.
And always someone will reach out to you.
Here is a poem I read when…[Read more]

    Thanks Skinner
    Wishing you well.
Part of my recovery plan was group counseling based of CBT once a week.
Along with two or three GA meetings a week.
I was able to get ground and had a great support system.
Hope you can get your idea off the ground.

    Hi Skinner
    Thanks for the info.
Wondering what or if there is a cost associated with the apps.
    Thanks
    Ken L Grateful Recovering CG

    • Hey Ken L,

Thanks for your reply, the app hasn’t been finished yet so there’s no cost for signing up since you are only putting down your email address. The idea is that investors would find it worthy to support when they see how many people have signed up to indicate their interest so that I could either make it free or at a very low cost to…[Read more]

Thanks for your post / thoughts Bigheart
The part of chasing loses / getting deeper reminded me of a paragraph in the Gamblers Anonymous yellow book read at meetings.
It is a very true statement of where our addiction can and does take us if we continue.

DECEMBER 10th Reflection for the Day
Have I ever stopped to think that the impulse to “blow off steam” and say something unkind or even vicious will, if followed through, hurt me far more seriously than the person to whom the insult is directed? I must try constantly to quiet my mind before I act with impatience or hostility, for my mind can be…[Read more]

December 9th Reflection for the Day

“Difficulties are God’s errands, and when we are sent upon them, we should esteem it a proof of God’s confidence,” wrote Beecher. I’ve come to realize that my past troubles were really of my own making. Although I hardly thought so at the time, I was a primary example of what the Gamblers Anonymous Program c…[Read more]

Common thread for some addicts but not everyone.
In my many years in Gamblers Anonymous meetings I have met many people who have come from great family growing up

And congrats on your 10 years in recovery 🙂 Keep it up ODAAT

December 8th Reflection for the Day

We often see people in Gamblers Anonymous – devoutly and with seeming sincerity – ask for God’s guidance on matters ranging from major crises to such insignificant things as what to serve at a dinner party. Though they may be well-intentioned, such people tend to force their wills into all sorts of situa…[Read more]

December 7th Reflection for the Day

As long as I stubbornly hang on to the conviction that I can live solely by my individual strength and intelligence, a working faith in my Higher Power is impossible. This is true, no matter how strongly I believe that God exists. My spiritual beliefs – no matter how sincere – will remain forever lifeless if…[Read more]

December 6th Reflection for the Day

When I finally convince myself to let go of a problem that’s been tearing me apart – when I take the action to set aside my will and let God handle the problem – my torment subsides immediately. If I continue to stay out of my own way, then solutions begin to unfold and reveal themselves. More and more, I’m c…[Read more]
