APRIL 26 Reflection for the Day

When I first came to Gamblers Anonymous, I was stunned by the constant sound of laughter. I realize today that cheerfulness and merriment are useful. Outsiders are sometimes surprised when we burst into laughter over some miserable – even tragic – experience from the past. But why shouldn’t we laugh? We have been…[Read more]

APRIL 25 Reflection for the Day

I have much more to be grateful for than I realize. Too often, I don’t remember to give thought to all the things in my life that I could enjoy and appreciate. Perhaps I don’t take time for this important meditation because I’m too preoccupied with my own so-called woes. I allow my mind to overflow with griev…[Read more]

APRIL 24 Reflection for the Day

We come to know in the Gamblers Anonymous Program that there is no deeper satisfaction and no greater joy than in a Twelfth Step well done. To watch the eyes of men and women open with wonder as they move from darkness to light, to see their lives quickly fill with new purpose and meaning, and above all to watch…[Read more]

      Hi Netta
May I suggest a few things that may help you along the way in your recovery.
      1) Find a GA group in your town / city 2) counseling and 3) find an app that will block you from online gambling sites.
And if you are free tonight at 10 pm est join me and some another Gamtalk members in the chatroom where we hold an online

APRIL 23 Reflection for the Day

No matter what it is that seems to be our need or problem, we can find something to rejoice in, something for which to give thanks. It is not God who needs to be thanked, but we who need to be thankful. Thankfulness opens new doors to good in our life. Thankfulness creates a new heart and a new spirit in us.

    Do I…[Read more]

      Hi Shaun
Gamblers Anonymous uses the word God / Higher Power in lots of the literature. My first meeting I thought it was a religious program/cult and didn’t go back and continued to gamble until I almost lost my family home job and life. When I went back a senior GA member took me aside and told me GA is a spiritual program and my Higher Power…[Read more]

I am looking for a list of virtual meetings so I called the hotline and was directed to gamblersanonymous.org
When I try it will not come in because it is redirected too many times. Any suggestions ?

    • Hi Frank
Here is a link to virtual meetings being held by several different Gamblers Anonymous groups through out North America.
If the link doesn’t send me an email at ken.lambon@rogers.com and I will see what else is out there.

The hotline number, 855 222 5542, is set up to direct your call to a volunteer in your area who has an up to date knowledge of all the meetings, physical and virtual, in your particular area. There is always the possibility that the volunteer may be busy with somebody else. If that happens, give it some time and try again.

APRIL 22 Reflection for the Day

As I attend meetings of the Gamblers Anonymous Program, may my eyes open wider and wider. Other people’s problems make mine look small, yet they are facing them with courage and confidence. Others are trapped in situations as bad as mine, but they bear their troubles with more fortitude. By going to meetings, I f…[Read more]

I have a serious problem. I risked my rent while trading. I’m 22 and I have a serious gambling issue. I’m about to lose my partner and my home. I’m devastated and I feel so alone.

    • Hey man. I’m the same age looking for people to network with. Times are tough for me too I’ve put myself in a very bad spot.

This is my first time on here but I am really beating myself up about losing over $20,000 in money I saved. Though I’m not in debt and my bills are paid it still makes me sick to my stomach that I let this addiction bring so far down. Any ideas to help my self esteem?

    • Hi Ariana
Welcome to Gamtalk. Glad you are reaching out for support.
When you say you aren’t in debt key word is YET. This illness is very progressive.
As for regaining your self-esteem may I suggest you find a GA meeting in your area and as well some counseling.
And if you are interested I send out two daily recovery focused emails. If you want…[Read more]

April 21 Reflection for the Day

Can I be wholeheartedly grateful for today? If so, I’m opening doors to more and more abundant good. What if I can’t be thankful for the “rain” that has fallen in my life – for the so called bad times? What then? I can begin by giving thanks for the sunshine I can remember, and for every blessing that has come my w…[Read more]

Ever since then, I am ALWAYS fighting the urge to gamble. On my phone, at the local casino, whatever. In the past week I have lost about 2k and over-drafted my checking account. I have a problem. “If a person continues to see only giants,” wrote Anais Nin, “it means he is still looking at the world through the eyes of a child.” During this twenty four-hour-period, I won’t allow myself to be burdened by thoughts of giants and monsters – of things that are past. APRIL 19 Reflection for the Day

As we continue to make these vital choices and so move towards these high aspirations, our reality returns and our compulsion vanishes. We learn, in the words of Plutarch, that, “A pleasant and happy life does not come from external things. Man draws from within himself, as from a spring, pleasure and joy.”

APRIL 18 Reflection for the Day

We in Gamblers Anonymous know full well the futility of trying to overcome our addiction by will power alone. At the same time, we do know that it takes great willingness to adopt the Program’s Twelve Steps as a way of life that can restore us to a normal way of thinking and living. No matter how severe our…[Read more]

APRIL 17 Reflection for the Day

The Gamblers Anonymous Program teaches me to remain on guard against impatience, lapses into self-pity, and resentments of the words and deeds of others. How do you help a family member who seems present, shows all signs of suicidal (without being suicidal) and is getting increased gambling addiction? They’re generally very listless and claim someone is out to get them, wit…[Read more]

    • Gambling is such a terribly insidious disease. It sounds as though they are completely numb – numb to everything around them. Sadly there isn’t a single right answer to resolve any of it.
