You will get there! I used to play poker online as well and I believe its rigged too. When I quit I realized how much of my TIME it was taking. When we begin recovery we need healthy ways to fill that time. I encourage you to come here to post or chat often! There’s some good people here who helped show me some tools to help overcome gambling addiction.

I disagree. When you win, you lose. It gets its hooks in.

Don’t go Rachel! Begin recovery. Mark the date and commit to no gambling and talk therapy (on here if nowhere else). You will begin a new chapter. Remember.. gambling only ends badly! Take care!

Recovery is hard. We work hard at recovery because it is worth it. Choosing recovery is choosing life. That sounds like a generic line but it’s true. Gambling addiction ONLY ends badly. Let that sink in.. only badly 99.999% of the time. Choose life. Choose people over money. Choose what is valuable to you. Choose recovery because YOU want to. If…[Read more]

I’m glad you are seeking help. The way to really begin recovery is to share your thoughts and listen to other’s stories of recovery, and you are doing that! Come here often through the process. It is a whole process. Take care!

Hey Bruce. I have a brother who has NPD. Of course they will never admit to it, the nature of it means that they are never wrong, they are better than others etc. It is horrible because they can’t be reasoned with. I had to get away from it completely. I know you love her and you don’t want to take this option. In getting away from my brother (and…[Read more]

Congrats for coming here and seeking help. I gambled in casinos and also online poker. There are blockers that work but I would find a way around them or use a different laptop. Currently I have banned myself at one casino (I drive past 5 every day) and my poker account is still there. I was playing freerolls and thought that was fine because I…[Read more]

I hope some new members read this and try to contribute to being there for someone or coming here to discuss what’s on their mind. More is more! This site has helped my recovery immensely but you need to be serious about recovery! G’day delicious…[Read more]

Hey everyone. It’s been nice hearing everyone’s stories and hearing about your recovery. I am getting on here several times per day for support and to give support. I encourage anyone here to do the same. I have heard the phrase “hurt people hurt people. ” How about “helping people helps people.” Ourselves and the people we are supporting. Stay…[Read more]

    • Thanks for being here Jeff. Frequently we need encouragement to help keep our recovery on a healthy course. Knowing that there are others out there who are actively working on recovery is part of individual healing.

    1. Come here 2. Find a creative outlet (music, movie, etc) 3. Try to be more sociable (working on this one) 4. Wait until urge passes; sometimes 15 minutes 5. Talk to anyone about anything

I did penny stocks and call options. The stock market can’t be predicted so it definitely is a form of gambling. I am in recovery for casino and online poker and I got the same rush from watching the price go up on an options call or stock.

This isn’t going to be easy. Please don’t underestimate the power of a drug called gambling. It is an addicting drug that we can quit. I quit gambling on Dec 3rd, 2018. I had quit for 2 months prior to that but that $50 hiccup sets my new date. I’m 4 days sober. Gambling effects us on a subconscious level and we can’t end that by thinking our way…[Read more]

      • Hi Rizzo
        Food for thought
Lady in my GA home group says compulsive gamblers aren’t stupid people trying to be
smart or bad people trying to be good. We are sick people trying to get well.

Hey jean! Welcome! I haven’t gambled since 12/1/18. I have been getting on this site when gambling urges hit me. I look forward to chatting with you sometime! Take care

Good job! You are doing good! The self-exclusion is the best way for us. The reasons why we compulsively gamble are numerous! I see it no different than a cocaine addiction because it makes dopamine flow. The most important thing rather than WHY.. is NOT doing it!:) and you’re not! Its a chemical thing in the brain that makes us feel good and…[Read more]

    • Thanks for taking the time out to reply, I agree that the why is not as important as the not doing it but I am very logical in every aspect of my life, except when it comes to gambling, so the why is quite important for me to stay stopped.

      • One thing that I did discover in my research is that when you get your first ‘big’ win the adrenaline rush is so intense that your brain puts up a barrier to stop your brain ‘blowing a fuse’ that barrier never comes down, but by then the gambler is hooked in trying to get that same ‘rush’, like you say, very much like a drug addiction. I found…[Read more]

I would be escorted off of the property. If they didn’t catch me playing and I won over $1200 it would be forfeited. I wouldn’t get it. Heck no I won’t go in there! I know that this was a good decision for my gambling sobriety. I have 2 more casinos where I have to self-exclude. I know that I need to not gamble with the temptation very close to my…[Read more]

I can’t set foot in there. I noticed that I was going to get my freeplay and leaving credit cards at home. Then one day I bring the plastic by “accident” and blow $2000 over $20 freeplay. Crazy. Self excluding is leaving the credit cards at home and also.. not going in at all, ever. By law:)

    • By law ? Does that mean you’ll get arrested if you go and get caught? I like the idea. I for sure will be very afraid to risk it

More than likely that’s what would happen! I encourage you to see this incident as your “bottom” and start the recovery process. You will own up to your actions and the guilt will go away. Good luck blue! You can do it!

  • Today I self-excluded at a metro area casino and I have the paperwork to mail off to self-exclude at most other Oklahoma casinos. This is an important step if you are serious about quitting. Good luck everyone!

    • For years I had planned to do this. Printed out paperwork but before I could mail it off I manage to “talk” myself out of it. I think it is a wise move. I will be doing that soon as I get money for the notarization. It’s so pathetic. I gamble thousands of dollars and now I don’t even have $15.
