Common thread for some addicts but not everyone.
In my many years in Gamblers Anonymous meetings I have met many people who have come from great family growing up
and solid relationships but for whatever reason gambling got a hold of them and they couldn’t stop on their own.
And congrats on your 10 years in recovery 🙂 Keep it up ODAAT

People like to think that addiction doesn’t discriminate but in my personal experience I’ve seen some shared traits among us but not the ones you describe. This addiction “selects” people who are bad at delaying gratification and gauging consequences . And also who tend to be impulsive and looking to escape.
