I have just came back on, after a 6 month fall of the wagon, gambling, hating myself, lying, hiding this addiction. I am exhausted, not sleeping, depressed and at a very low time in my life. This morning I woke up, looked at myself in the mirror and said you are an addict, Today is Day 1 of Recovery. Time to start again, this difficult journey of…[Read more]

Yes I am back to this site also after a 6 month leave. Recovery is very hard work. I am learning I need to make my recovery the most important thing in my life. Checking in her daily certainly helped, once I stopped doing that my life became a juggling act ! I am reminded of the old saying, How do you eat an elephant one bite at a time, a daunting…[Read more]

    • I have to come here alot. I was a 24/7 Gamer/gambler. I had to remind myself daily that I am an addict. I reaffirm my commitment and coming here make me accountable. I’d rather be here than be losing on a game.

    • Well spoken, the task is daunting, I am still new to this quitting as well. I’m 12 days down and 28 days free from alcohol. I almost relapsed this weekend when I saw family and they were all drinking. I started to think “one drink is okay and I can stop by the bar and put in $20 and enjoy myself”… my family said “no, he’s not drinking or gambling…[Read more]

Sal, thanks for sharing your story, you are not alone. I hope as you said in your story an 18 yr old listens and realizes how destructive, and addictive gambling is. It will destroys loving relationships, reputation, businesses, friendships, and in the end destroy you. The only house that wins is the casino, because in the long run the house never…[Read more]

After years of playing online poker and losing, had to delete app and not even entertain the idea of playing online again.
Similar to you I was playing on gifted money, it really had no value to me, it was a means to gamble with. I was one of the few lucky ones, it wasn’t money needed to pay rent, buy groceries or pay bills. BUT after I lost t…[Read more]

    • Thank you for the reply, hearing from someone else in similar straits and what it took for them is what I needed to hear to base my outlook on. Struggled with various addictions before so I can recognize the necessity of nipping the bud, was hoping for some secret trick but you illustrating what made the difference for you has given me clarity.

      Thank you.

      • Hi Canuck

One day at a time Adjs1. Healing, recovery takes time. Don’t beat yourself up to bad, we tend to loathe ourselves, and try to make ourselves feel really BAD. Make recovery your number 1 priority in life, your worth it !

    Greetings GamTalk Community,
As I read Durr’s post I am reminded of Corinthians 13:1 , Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud ,It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does delight in evil but rejoices with the truth, Thinking of what Love i…[Read more]

Great message Durr ! I do tend to have an addictive personality, so on to the next thing to fill the void of gambling…. A good message to moderate, everything done excessively can yet lead to more problems. Moderation and balance sounds calming and enjoyable !

Happy New Day ! Now that’s achievable. I have always thought making huge New Years Resolutions were setting me up for failure. But “ Happy New Day” is definitely achievable and realistic. I am reminded of the saying, How do you eat an elephant….one bite at a time. Trying to quit gambling at times can seem daunting and unattainable, but one step at…[Read more]
