Jenny I will be the first and hopefully not the last to tell you that you do not have sobriety when it comes to being a compulsive gambler. Setting a budget number that you can gamble monthly is the farthest thing from sobriety. I have read every post you have made and while I would like to believe you have moments of clarity, the majority of…[Read more]

    • Yes I admit it won’t be sobriety if I’m gambling

    • I hope I didn’t offend you your message sounded like you were offended, I hope not I was just sharing my story. I guess it is offensive that I still gamble while everyone else is having a hard time quitting yet somehow manage. I will not be so offensive next time.

    • I gambled but I was able to stop at $100 vs stopping till I had $0, I think I’m doing good

I have had no problems with attending both GA and Gamtalk. The great thing about GA is that it is in person vs. Gamtalk is virtual. Nothing beats the in person meetings with all of the raw emotion.

    • Hi Tino
I agree BT if one finds the right room GA is a gift to recovery
I have been in GA for just over 21 years and still attend because in my room we don’t just talk about recovery issues we can dump whatever problems we are dealing with it the middle of the room and move on.
And always someone will reach out to you.
Here is a poem I read when…[Read more]

Tino-I go to GA every week and I do not find it dramatic. I do believe finding the right meeting for you is important. I have been in recovery for 5.5 years and have remained with the same meeting the entire time. I believe for me GA is a pivotal part of my recovery. Are you in an area that you can try other meetings as I am in an area that…[Read more]

    • Ive been to multiple meetings daily in my first week of vacation and my 30 days get closer one day at a time with the emotional benefits

It does get easier, BUT you have to do the work daily. This is a horrible disease that takes hard work and dedication toward the road to recovery. Good Luck. Stick with it. Find a meeting and get a sponsor.

I am absolutely available for you. I am trying to figure out how to get you a private message in order to get you my number as I do not want to put it out publicly.

Hi MamaJ711-Please know the advice I am offering is coming from a compulsive gambler. I have been in recovery for 4.5 years and I wish my husband would have put his foot down and called me on my problem, but he did not. 4.5 years later after in patient treatment and attending GA meetings every week we are still very happily married. I suggest…[Read more]

Commit to help whether it is GA, Therapy or even in patient help. When you do commit to help you will find that honesty is the best policy and you will have to divulge your secrets to your wife. There is a possibility that while you think you are softening the blow to your wife by cleaning up the mess, you might make it worse by not bringing her…[Read more]

    • Thanks Barbarat. I agree with you and want to divulge any secrets. Working up the courage. Not gambling while doing that. And have a therapy appointment in 3 days as well. Thanks again for the response and support.

Congrats on 6 years:-). I would like to hear your story if you would like to share. I have 139 days. I am very committed to my program and truly enjoy chatting with people on this site. I consider it part of my recovery.

Such a great way to take charge! I love that you see the value in driving to GA and therapy vs. the casino’s. Continue to move forward with a positive attitude and don’t look back. We are here for you if you need to talk or even if you just want to vent. No judgement here just love and support.

    • Thank you for the encouragement Barbarat 😊 It’s going to be a long journey but looking at it as a challenge. I learned from this group that it’s not only about stopping gambling but making positive changes in my life… one step at a time. I love the warmth in this group ♥️

Please know that there is hope and there is help out there. I am early in my recovery from compulsive gambling, 107 days to be exact. I read your story and wow I felt like I was reading mine. After 6+ years of gambling I admitted myself into an inpatient facility in Arizona as I just could not stop going to the Casino’s here in Southern…[Read more]

    • To everyone on there, that is exactly true. One year ago, I was lying on my back having run out every credit card, even a storefront lender, behind on mortgage and more, way overextended on my home while my wife and I are getting old. I was and am working 12 hours from home and was gambling week after week, month after month, had declared…[Read more]
