Hey everyone! My name is Ryan and I am 22 from Ohio; I wanted to post an update because I have finally decided to quit gambling and ultimately to quit losing. I wanted to share my story and I encourage you all to share your stories with me. I first began sports betting when I was 19 years old on off-shore betting sites; at first it was just for fun and I ended up earning a few quick wins. This then turned in a routine and I found myself gambling multiple times a day on these sites; by the time that sports betting became legal in Ohio, I was spiraling out of control. At the beginning of this month, I began to lose money and lose it quick; I began to become distant and I never told anyone about what was going on. I’m ashamed to admit it, but I have lost upwards of $10k of my hard earned money on sports gaming. However, today I forgave myself. Last night I had a mental breakdown to my long-time girlfriend and admitted that I had been lying to her. I had a long discussion with my family this morning and we crafted a path to recovery. I am grateful that I broke down or I would most likely have spent all of my savings on gambling. I can’t wait to save money again and show my girlfriend that I can be the man that she needs me to be. I feel like a weight has been lifted off of my shoulders, but there is still a lot of work to do. I pray for all of you and I hope that you pray for me. We are not alone and I can’t wait to get through this together with all of you!
